Taisho Era, resist-dyed

Sonia Delaunay co-founded the Orphism art movement in 1912, a version of Cubism that was noted for its use of strong colors and geometric shapes. In addition to painting and illustration, she designed costumes for the theater, ballet, and films, and clothing for her own fashion studio. One can imagine this kimono as one of her designs.
